Away Days
On the team never played at home,
Call this city home,
You think gladiators questioned support in Rome?
So why does everyday feel away,
Tough crowd,
Rough round,
These edges. Forgive my scowl,
It’s just my personality.
But, it’s just a natural actuality,
Let a torrent welcome me,
“I belong here.”
That’s a pathetic fallacy
Everyday an away day,
Still settling in,
“Give him time”, they’ll say,
But that’s optimistic.
“What happened to his hit rate?”
Sad, but that’s realistic.
This new signing’s got critics,
My most self-destructive habit,
Is that I’m my biggest critic.
Back of the bus,
Lonely expectations,
Perform, I must,
Missing targets; a harsh initiation,
This is a new level,
BuLi to Prem,
Me against them,
Nowhere but forward,
Time to prove myself again
Step inside the ground,
Still awaiting form found,
Simple matter is that they’ll have your back
When it’s going well.
There’s no I in team,
But onto you they’ll lean,
Individualistic chemistry,
Wait until you’re useless,
Pray that’s a story I can’t tell
